An applicant to take the examination must meet the following requirement:
- Be a resident of Iowa, have a place of business in Iowa, or as an employee be regularly employed in Iowa.
An applicant must meet at least one of the following guidelines:
- Two or more years actual experience in practice as an Licensed Public Accountant as an employee of an Licensed Public Accountant or Certified Public Accountant.
- Employed for at least twenty-four months prior to July 1, 1975 by the United States Government, by this state, or by a political subdivision of this state in an accounting or auditing position for which an examination in accounting knowledge or qualifying education or experience in the practice as an accounting practitioner was required.
- Graduate of a four-year college or university accredited by North Central Accreditation Association or other regional accreditation association having equivalent standards, with a concentration in accounting.
- Graduate in accountancy from a business or correspondence school accredited by the accrediting commission of the national home study council.
- Evidence of five years of continuous experience engaged in performing any of the following services:
- a. The recording of financial transactions in books of record.
- b. The making of adjustments of such transactions in books of record.
- c. The making of trial balances from books of record.
- d. Internal verification and analysis of books or accounts of original entry.
- e. The preparation of financial statements, schedules or reports.
- f. The devising and installing of systems or methods of bookkeeping, internal controls of financial data, or the recording of financial data.
